About Us
Our Founders
DAAS stands for David Acevedo Art Studio. Acevedo is one of the founders, president, curator and director of the venue. Xavier Brignoni, co-founder, vice-president and artist, came up with the name during the planning stages of the very first gallery. Once located on Broadway Street in downtown Fort Myers, their very first artistic venue was established as an art studio in 2006; later transcending into daas Gallery (all lower caps) and then what is now DAAS CO-OP Art Gallery. During the first year as an art gallery, the venue was primordial for the creation and establishment of the Fort Myers Art Walk – an event that just celebrated its first decade and has been known as the catalyst for the success of the redevelopment of the downtown River District.
Acevedo and Brignoni quickly became prominent figures in the Southwest Florida art scene, recognized by their efforts to promote the local talent, diversity and inclusivity, as recipients of the 2016 and 2017 Gulfshore Life FACE Awards, respectively. Today, the cooperative provides a beautiful space for local artist members to exhibit and sell their works, in a beautiful environment. Their new location, in the Alliance for the Arts campus is an escape from the ordinary. Naturally, collaborations with neighboring businesses have been established and there are many exciting projects and events in the future. Each studio artist brings a special touch and style to the inventory. The eclectic mix is well displayed and constantly changing with new items and creations. There are no prefect words to describe what DAAS CO-OP is. You need to come and witness this lovingly put-together art space for yourself.
