Fort Myers, FL – In the month of June, DAAS CO-OP Art Gallery & Gifts is hosting a very special guest artist exhibition at their new location in the Alliance for the Arts campus. Artist Amanda Zirzow presents her ‘Something Wild’ collection, with an opening reception scheduled for Friday, June 7, 2024, from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. The exhibition will be on display through June 30, 2024.
Originally from Falls Church, Virginia, Zirzow has made Florida her home since 2016, where she actively engages with both the artistic and scientific communities. Her educational background in biology greatly influences her artwork, bringing a scientific perspective to her creative expression. The artist’s diverse experiences from her work at the University of Arizona’s Biosphere 2, volunteering with wildlife rehabilitation centers, and scuba diving in Florida’s coral reefs continuously fuel her artistic inspiration. Besides painting, she teaches biology and microbiology at Florida Southwestern State College and spends time on the beaches as a Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum and Aquarium Shell Ambassador. As a dedicated Calusa Waterkeeper Volunteer Ranger, Amanda is passionately involved in monitoring and preserving local water quality, using her art to advocate for environmental conservation and the importance of clean water.
This exhibition will showcase a collection of vibrant paintings that bring the spirited essence of wild animals to life, through bold and expressive brushstrokes. “Something Wild” aims to blend scientific accuracy with artistic expression to highlight the importance of wildlife and biodiversity. Through the colorful and dynamic brushstrokes, the artwork explores the beauty and complexity of nature’s creatures. “This exhibition promises to be a compelling draw for art lovers and casual visitors alike.” – comments Zirzow, who is exhibiting at this popular venue for the first time. “It provides a captivating glimpse into the untamed aspects of nature, and I hope to capture the imagination of our guests.” – concludes the artist, who’s known for her technical and precise approach to her medium.
Earlier this year, DAAS CO-OP relocated to the Edwards Building, which is located in the Alliance for the Arts campus. The decision to relocate was enforced by ownership and administrative changes in the former Butterfly Estates complex, where the venue operated since 2019. Now in the new location, the cooperative gallery has expanded their guest exhibition space and reestablished the monthly opening receptions on the first Friday of every month from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
