Fort Myers, FL – In the month of May, DAAS CO-OP Art Gallery & Gifts is hosting the very first guest artist exhibition at their new location in the Alliance for the Arts campus. Artist Pamela Jones presents her Gypsy Jazz collection, with an opening reception scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024, from 5:30pm to 9:00pm, The exhibition will be on display through June 2, 2024.

Originally from Missouri, Jones is a self-taught mixed media artist who moved to Southwest Florida in 2012. Soon after, the urge to express herself kicked in. Pamela’s work consists of highly detailed assemblages made with repurposed objects, thrift store treasures and fascinating finds. Her art path has been inspired by profound personal events, such as seeing a Catholic reliquary for the first time, passing out at the sight of clowns at age 3 and discovering ancestry in Bohemia.

“I always have been attracted to religious, ethnic, and folkloric imagery, roadside memorials, home altars and shrines and outsider art. So, it’s no surprise my art leans toward assemblage and mixed media. Recently I shifted to fiber art with the Gypsy Jazz series, inspired by my love of the vibrant music of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt and the colors and textures of gypsy life.” – comments the artist, whose artwork has been juried into numerous prestigious local, regional, and national exhibitions, and is held in private collections across the U.S. “I love discovering elements to transform into works of art and truly believe More Is More. I enjoy the process of making art: solving problems, finding the perfect element, deconstructing, reconstructing and a lot of just sitting and staring–and knowing when to stop. Also, I like to create artwork in a series, to explore various aspects of a unifying theme. I rarely can stop at just one piece!” – concludes Jones, who considers her craft inspiring, uplifting, and amusing.
