Fort Myers, FL – In the month of June, DAAS CO-OP Art Gallery & Gifts is showcasing the artwork of visual artist Carol Young. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 2, 2023, from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, in conjunction with the monthly Fort Myers Art Walk event. The exhibition will be on display through July 2, 2023.

Carol Young graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Creative Communications, later moving to Alaska for what she describes as her “next adventure.” Young recollects that “the Alaska pipeline was just getting started and Fairbanks was a hive of activity which meant there was a need for more teachers.” She then taught secondary art for 30 years.  During this time, she belonged to the Fairbanks Potters Guild, worked at the Woodway Gallery, and participated in various shows throughout the years. This guild participated in the Empty Bowls project which raised money for the food banks, all while maintaining a sales booth at the local farmers market.

After 42 years in Alaska, Young decided to head south. After settling in southwest Florida, she continued working with glass fusing, watercolor, and clay – all classes and workshops offered at the Cape Coral Art Center. “Clay seems to be my addition.” – comments Young, who sees her work as a bit whimsical. “I like color and spontaneity and I feel that comes across [in my work].” – concluded the artist.
